Biography

JD Rothman, a former instructor of remedial freshman composition, is an Emmy award-winning television writer, producer and lyricist. While on an eight-state college tour with her older son, she started the anonymous www.NeuroticParent.com blog, which was excerpted in I'm Going to College, Not You (St. Martins Press, 2010) and eventually morphed into the LA Times bestseller, The Neurotic Parent’s Guide to College Admissions. The book is a favorite of harried admissions officers and angst-ridden parents in need of a dose of sanity while navigating/micromanaging the process. Rothman is a frequent speaker and panelist at high school college nights, application workshops, and events with college admissions officers. She also works individually with neurotic parents and students to provide 'college admissions therapy', including honing the list, presenting extracurriculars in a coherent way, and brainstorming non-clichéd essay topics. She has been interviewed on CNNNPR and Bloomberg Radio, has guest blogged for the Washington Post and featured on the NY Times education blog.

Rothman grew up in Brooklyn and received B.A. and M.A. degrees from a large public university. She resided in several Latin American countries before settling in Santa Monica, where she and her husband, a bassist in the Los Angeles Philharmonic, live with their schnoodle and wait for infrequent texts from their sons, one a junior at a top ten university, and the other a recent graduate, miraculously supporting himself in the real world.
